Sluggish iOS 4 performance on the iPhone 3G?

A Neowin.net reader as posted a fix that seems to solve the sluggish performance on the iPhone 3G. This fix seems to also resolve the battery drain problems I was having on my 3Gs as well.

The fix is this, Go to “Settings->General->Home Button->Spotlight Search-> deselect every option” and this will stop background indexing on the phone.

The Windows Live Essentials Wave 4 Public Beta has now been released. The beta is only supported on Windows Vista with Service Pack 2 and Windows 7.

Apple iPhone OS 4.0 released

Apple has just released their latest firmware update for the iPhone and iPod touch excluding the 1st generation models.

Although the user interface has not changed much, apple have hade huge improvements to the OS, with copy and paste in 3.0 and now multitasking in 4.0, though multitasking is not supported on the iPhone 3G.

iTunes 9.2 is required to upgrade your device to 4.0

WordPress 3.0 “thelonious” has now been released.

Developers and network admins will appreciate the long-awaited merge of MU and WordPress, creating the new multi-site functionality which makes it possible to run one blog or ten million from the same installation.

Save/import of contacts gone in latest QFE3 update of Windows Live Messenger 2009.

A commenter over at Jonathan Key’s Messenger Geek blog has pointed out a very useful feature has been removed in the latest QFE patch. The ability to backup and restore the Messenger Contacts list. Why this has to be removed I have no idea nor does Jonathan Kay.

The feature was handy for the following scenarios.

Moving your contact list from one account to another. Like I had to do a few years ago.
When you want to have a backup of all your contacts for use elsewhere.
Restoring your contact list after it has somehow disappeared.

One suggestion that Jonathan has suggested is to go to http://people.live.com/ , choose the Manage menu and then Export or Import but this is not ideal.

Office 2010 now Released to Manufacturing

On Thursday the Microsoft Office blog reported that Office 2010 has reached the RTM milestone.

The RTM build will be made available for download on the MSDN and TechNet Subscription download sites on Thursday 22nd. Volume Licence customers with SA can download it from Tuesday 27th otherwise you will have to wait till May 1st.

BBC Radio 6Music invades Radio 4

BBC Radio 6Music lade an unplanned visit on Radio 4’s frequencies on Thursday Evening. The 7pm News bulletin get’s interrupted with Wednesday Week by The Undertones for just under 3 minuets before the problem is resolved but not before the start of The Archers was also missed. An apology was broadcast at the end of The Archers.

The problem was down to BBC Radio 6Music switching output from London to Manchester for Marc Riley’s programme.

Google Street view UK imagery now complete

I’m not sure when this was completed but I‘ve been made aware that Google’s Street view imagery of the UK has been completed and appears to covers pretty much all of the UK road network.

Windows 7: More than 90 Million Copies Sold

Over on the Windows Team Blog, they have reported that over 90 Million copies of Widows 7 has been sold making Windows 7 the fastest selling Operating System in history.
